Prof. Alfred Cheng, alongside team members Patrick, Lingyun, and Yalin, represented our laboratory at the prestigious 2024 AACR Annual Meeting. Held from April 5th to 10th at the San Diego Convention Center, this gathering is a cornerstone event organized by the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR).
We are delighted to announce that Yingnan Lin has joined our laboratory as a research assistant, bringing his expertise to our ongoing exploration of the 3D genome. Yingnan will be an integral part of our team, focusing on 3D genome methodology and unraveling the intricacies of genome organization and its impact on gene regulation. His contributions will help us further our understanding of the spatial configuration of the genome and its role in cellular processes.
Cheng’s lab gathered at Chung Chi College Staff Canteen on Feb 26,2024 to celebrate the beginning of a new year together. Filled with laughter, conversations, and delectable food, the event provided an opportunity for team members to strengthen bonds and foster a sense of unity.
Organised by the Beijing-Hong Kong Academic Exchange Centre, the annual selection invites universities in Hong Kong to submit news on innovation, technology and scientific research. On 5 February, four CUHK research projects were named among the top ten Hong Kong Innovation and Technology News 2023.

See, Lecturer of the School of Biomedical Sciences were invited as the speakers and moderator at the Faculty Strategic Workshop 2024 organised by the Faculty of Medicine of CUHK held on 27 Jan 2024 at the CUHK Medical Centre.
It is with mixed emotions that we bid farewell to Dr. Xiong Zhewen, a remarkable member of our lab, as she embarks on an exciting new chapter in her academic career at Stanford University.
We expressed heartfelt appreciation for Willis’s significant efforts and extended their best wishes as he embarks on his journey to become a veterinarian!

Tis the season to be jolly! Dec. 21 2023, Prof. Cheng, Prof. Zhou and Prof. Tong’s lab gathered together to exchange presents, expressing appreciation and strengthening the bonds that make our team thrive. This beloved annual tradition brings together lab members in a joyous celebration, fostering a sense of camaraderie, gratitude, and goodwill.
The Research Grants Council of Hong Kong (RGC) recently announced the funding results of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC)/RGC Joint Research Scheme (JRS) and Collaborative Research Scheme (CRS). The JRS is funding 10 projects at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), while the CRS is funding two. Among the eight University Grants Committee (UGC)-funded universities, CUHK is the leader in the number of projects funded by the JRS and the total number funded by both schemes.
CUHK Emeritus Professor CHO Chi Hin, the Honorary Director of South Sichuan Institute of Translational Medicine (SSITM), along with Prof. CHAN Leung Franky and Prof. CHENG Sze-lok Alfred from CUHK SBS and other experts, visited the SSITM in November 2023.

Liver cancer remains one of the most common cancers in the world. Recent research from CUHK’s Faculty of Medicine has discovered how liver cancer cells adapt to immunotherapy, the most advanced therapy for cancer patients.
Welcome our summer research interns, Michelle and Sunnie! They will contribute to our project “Characterization of novel immuno-oncology drug candidates for cancer immunotherapy” and experience biomedical research in a practical and hands-on environment.
